“No” said the young man. “No, I will not confess these shames.”
“What are you saying, bastard?” said X “You think that I’ll be sorry for you? Come along, don’t be a fool. You’re doing splendidly, you’re kneeling at my feet. I like that. Go on and sign and get this over with.”
“I knelt before God” said the unfortunate lad. “That I thought He had created mankind. And you with them. But I was wrong. Even a fierce beast knows some touch of pity.”
“Oh, yes” said X harshly. “Your mistake. I know no pity. So, I am no beast.”
