In the present revised edition, STEP FIVE has an entirely new and, it is hoped, welcome feature: forty pages of multiple-choice Exercises on. Verbs with Prepositions and Adverbial Particles complete with two General Tests that can be set in class.
In view of the importance and difficulties of phrasal verbs I thought it might be more useful to devote the space alloted to Homework Exercises in the four previous STEPS to familiarizing the student with some of the commonest of these verbs through carefully chosen sentences. Why I have adopted this form of presentation rather than any other is set out in great detail in the Teacher's Book, which is available on request. In the same book the teacher will also find an alphabetical list of all the verbs treated in Part Two together with cross-references and numerous additional example sentences to illustrate usage.
